Sam Butera

Louis Prima’s legendary saxophonist Sam Butera has died. Family friends said Butera died at about 6am on June 3rd, 2009 at Sunrise Hospital (Las Vegas), where he had been since early January 2009 suffering from the effects of Alzheimer's Disease. Butera, who retired in 2004, would have been 82 in August.

Besides having been a personal friend and one of my all-time idols, Louis Prima's legendary sideman was renowned as one of the most impeccable players of the Tenor Sax of this or any other musical era. With his distinctive sax playing and his powerful vocals, he'd thrilled millions via performances from Las Vegas’ major showrooms, to the Copacabana in New York City.

One of the biggest highlights of my career was to sit-in with him and The Wildest many times at the legendary Sands Casino Show Lounge in Las Vegas and at Resorts International in Atlantic City where I first met him in 1982!

ReUnion

Here’s a Tower Of Power tribute band that’s finally getting some of the recognition they deserve. I’ve had the pleasure of performing with some of these musicians, (Billy, Matt, Paul), in a couple of different bands (Mic Gillette Band, Highway 61). They play some of the coolest horn driven music with a distinctive style that stands out from the rest!
